Bumbu Putih is one of the most basic styles of cooking seasonings from where I grew up on Sumbawa island, Indonesia. But don’t let that fool you. It is packed with flavor. It has a fresh and airy appeal of piney galangal and nutty candlenut. I remember as a child my mom would ask me to go outside to pick the herbs and she would blend them together. I could smell the aromas throughout the house. I knew she was going to prepare something that I loved, either fried rice, soup, or a noodle dish.
